DAY 30 - Today is our halfway point. The month has passed quickly. Memories of the people, places and special moments simply clog my mind. Our days really are just multiple special moments, sunrise, something funny said, a glimpse of a grizzly, or the smell of fir as we brush by a young tree. Today I have decided to just capture my Day 30 moments.

Miles of high gently rounded ridges with side hill detours to avoid steep peaks.

Rocks, smooth as marbles, litter the ground; some patterned with patches of black, gray or bright orange lichen, others a dull egg shell finish, and others polished and gleaming purple, pinks, greens, black, gray and white.

Looking back over the route we have taken gray ridge fingers webbed with green and gold slopes and valleys.

A burst of rain, blown horizontal by wind forces the horses and us to bow our heads.

An afternoon blue sky filled with clouds.

Hawks floating - with shift of wings dropping and climbing off the slopes.

Back and forth we ride along the ridgeline from Montana to Idaho and back into Montana.

It smells so good - cool, dry grasses and sweet sage.

Lunch in a grove of pines, sheltered from the wind, hungry.

Dropping finally after ten hours down into camp tired but satisfied with the day.

Kind friends have set up our tents and a hot dinner awaits us.
