National Historic Trails Presentation at Emigrant Springs
Location: Emigrant Springs, Wyoming
Host: National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Wyoming State Office

From St. Louis, MO to this area of Wyoming, all routes west were one;a fairly well-worn path along the Platte River. South Pass, just east of Kemmerer, is the lowest point of the Rocky Mountains, and so a logical place to cross the Continental Divide. From here, the trail divided, heading to Oregon, California, and Salt Lake City, depending on whether the travelers sought farmland, gold, or salvation.
